What the fifteen questions cover
The in-depth test draws one of five sets of fifteen questions at random. Four are about your partner, and one is about you:
- Emotional connection: words of love, the details of your stories your partner remembers, physical affection, how they listen, how they respond to your self-doubt and your fears, respect for your boundaries and your independence, and your place in their long-term plans.
- Betrayal, sex and lies: this set is about you. Your honesty, how you handle jealousy and flirting from other people, how you feel about your partner's past, how satisfied you are with your sex life, whether you have ever been unfaithful, and how you would react to a lie or a betrayal.
- Passion and desire: how your partner shows desire and attraction, in intimate moments as well as in ordinary ones, such as cooking together or reminiscing.
- Communication and conflict: listening in difficult conversations, apologies, criticism, stress, the silent treatment, changing moods and sensitive subjects.
- Commitment and the future: how your partner shows commitment, talks about growing old together, handles doubts and outside pressure, and supports your life goals.
Before you start
Some questions are personal, especially in the second set. Take the test at a quiet moment, where nobody is reading over your shoulder, and answer for yourself rather than for the image you would like to give: you are the only person who sees your answers. The score is calculated in your browser and your answers are never sent to us; our audience statistics only record that a test was completed, with its final score (privacy policy).
How your score is calculated
Each question has four answers: 25 points for the most positive, 5 for the least positive and, usually, 20 and 15 in between. The total is divided by 375, the maximum for fifteen questions, and shown as a percentage between 20% and 100%.
A single answer moves the score by about 5 points at most, which makes this the most stable of our tests. The result shifts when several answers point the same way. For example, choosing the second answer everywhere gives 80%; replacing three of those answers with the least positive one brings the score down to 68%, one band lower.
How to read your result
Your score falls into one of six bands:
- 85 to 100%
- 70 to 84%
- 55 to 69%
- 40 to 54%
- 25 to 39%
- Under 25%
The scoring grid rewards one picture of an ideal relationship; it is not a moral judgment. In the second set, for instance, "End the relationship immediately" is the lowest-scoring answer when a partner confesses to cheating. Choosing to leave after a betrayal is still a legitimate decision, and your score says nothing about what is right for you. In the same way, that set measures your own attitudes (honesty, jealousy, trust): a lower score there may point to something to work on yourself, not only to a lack of love.
Below the result, the "Read next" block suggests two articles matched to your score. How to build trust and intimacy sheds light on the questions about honesty and betrayal, and how to keep the spark alive on those about desire.
When the score does not matter
No online test, even one with fifteen questions, can tell you what your partner feels. This test has not been scientifically validated; it is a structured way to think about your relationship. If some questions brought to mind fear, constant monitoring, threats or sexual pressure, set the score aside and read our article on relationship red flags, which explains where to find help. And if the result raises questions you cannot answer as a couple, couples therapy is often a good next step.
